Collaborating with HR on a wellness messaging strategy
Earning leadership commitment and support goes a long way in creating a culture of health at work.
At Ragan’s Employee Experience and Wellness Conference this past August, MTech Mechanical Marketing Manager Molly Cape and HR Manager Lisa Murphy shared how leaders play a key role in educating team members to participate in a comprehensive wellness program.
Here’s what we learned.
Educating leaders starts with defining purpose
Murphy said that leadership involvement with employee wellbeing starts by determining what the purpose is, recalling the day after Thanksgiving in 2019 when MTech’s purpose around employee wellbeing became much clearer after a senior general superintendent died by suicide.
“We started to see mental health start to come up and started had a realization that for us, in construction, mental wellbeing is one (area) that we need to spend time focusing on,” said Murphy.
The more time you spend with your executive leadership, the more they’ll trust you. Remind them that you have more direct contact with employees, and their personal stories make a difference.
