Study: An epidemic of stress roils America, including the workplace
The American Psychological Association sounds the alarm about the long-term consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated crises this year.
Nearly eight in 10 American adults (78%) say the coronavirus pandemic is a significant source of stress in their lives, while 60% (three in five) say the number of issues America is currently consumed with is overwhelming.
That’s the picture the American Psychological Association paints of the United States, circa late 2020, in the latest in its annual Stress in America surveys. It’s a picture of a growing mental health crisis, as the typical sources of stress are compounded by the remarkable confluence of crises in 2020—the COVID-19 pandemic and associated issues in health and health care, the economy, racism and the presidential election.
