Isn’t it hard when you have to get employees excited about a dull CEO?
There’s not a lot you can do with a boring executive to make them more interesting, but don’t give up hope.
Communicators at SC Johnson developed ways to jazz up its executive communication program, engage employees—and have fun doing it. (SC Johnson is fortunate not to have a dull CEO).
“It’s all about finding the ‘wow’ factor with things that are going on to get your employees excited and excited about your executives,” said Jenelle Isaacson, a communications manager for SC Johnson.
The fifth-generation-owned company strives to connect its 12,000 employees worldwide with the executive team using creativity and some planning. Here’s how they do it.
1. Hold a pep rally
Isaacson encourages communicators to use existing opportunities, like a sales meeting or company function, to bring out an executive’s fun side.
For example, SC Johnson executives marched into a company party at its Racine, Wis.-based headquarters playing songs with the University of Wisconsin marching band, complete with matching red-and-white uniforms.
