Optimizing your intranet to drive creative collaboration
Tips on rethinking intranet structure, using frameworks to foster engagement and more.
During Ragan’s Employee Communications and Culture Conference this past April, Ragan Editor Sean Devlin went deep into what it takes for comms leads to bootstrap their commtech stack and optimize the intranet during a lively panel conversation with JPMorgan Chase & Co. Executive Director, Intranet Managing Editor and Internal Communications Director Margarett Frisby, Fresh Product Director David Bowman and Christine de la Huerta, director of internal communications, marketing & communications at Baptist Health South Florida.
Here’s what we learned:
Optimizing and customizing your intranet structure
Communicators get the most out of their tech stack when we have a good handle on what we’re trying to achieve. Bowman began by suggesting that comms use the metadata in each piece of content as a guide to accomplish this, matching the tech to the experiences they want to deliver. It’s not just about the text and the medium, stressed Bowman, but structural tact.
To inform your structure, Frisby recommends focusing on what’s specific to each employee and segmenting by function, business line and location.
De la Huerta underscored how customization and segmenting can only happen if you have the right data to make rules-based targeting decisions with the software.
