New mag Jewish Living covers food, lifestyle and holidays
Pitch Martha Stewart-style ideas—but with a Jewish twist.
Does the new Jewish Living magazine need pitches from PR pros? “We’ve got 5,000 years of content to catch up on,” jokes Daniel Zimerman, founder and publishing director of the bimonthly glossy, which launched with a November/December issue late last year, and an initial rate base of 100,000.
Jewish Living aims to provide the kind of lifestyle coverage that’s a staple of books like Martha Stewart Living and O (the Oprah mag)—only with a focus on Jewish culture and traditions. Zimerman says content is aimed at a wide range of Jewish families, “from intermarriages to the modern Orthodox,” he explains.
“For the most part, the Jewish community only has serious issues magazines,” says Zimerman. “There’s nothing about celebrating Chanukah, or other holidays.” During the holiday season, most lifestyle mags slip in a page about making latkes as a nod to other cultures—and, explains Zimerman, they don’t do much with Passover or other key Jewish holidays.
