Intel sparks internal communication through blogs, wikis, forums
How to spread the word among 100,000 employees? The computing giant uses multiple channels, explaining its stock and encouraging workers to “ask a geek.”
Intel has found a way to open lines of communication, whether the topic is health care plans or an explanation of terminology at the computing giant.
Through wikis, blogs, discussion groups, and video, Intel has broadened conversation on internal news and has fostered collaboration among its staff, says Jeremy Schultz, an Intel communication specialist and consultant.
Schultz’s thoughts were recently cited in the blog Communication AMMO, where he led a Twitter discussion on internal communication and emphasized the importance of storytelling.
He drew multiple retweets for comments such as, “Storytelling is still important. Most of my job is still spent finding, writing, and sharing stories.”
In an interview, Schultz mentioned some ways the company helps its employees to participate in creating Intel’s story—and to collaborate on finding information.
At Intel, the intranet homepage is the default browser homepage for 85 percent of its nearly 100,000 employees, so that is an ideal starting point for driving interest in things the company wishes to highlight, Schultz says.
