During a media training session a few months ago, I invited a reporter from the Modesto Bee to speak to our group about the local media environment. We opened a Local Census Office in Stockton, Calif., for our dress rehearsal in preparation for the 2010 Census. Of course, we want coverage of our people, programs and products. The reporter shared two documents with the group I think you will find interesting and helpful.

Things to know about reporters:
1) Reporters are overworked, underpaid and always on deadline, so they’re most inclined to follow the path of least resistance. That means the easier you make things for them, the better the coverage you’re going to get.
