How communicators feel about working from home, returning to the office
Ragan’s 2023 Salary and Workplace Culture Survey found that fewer comm pros work from home five days a week.
The 2023 edition of Ragan’s Salary and Workplace Culture Survey asked nearly 600 communicators across generational, gender, regional and industry demographics to weigh in on their pay, benefits and culture in the workplace. The results, available exclusively to Ragan Insider, Communications Leadership Council and PR Daily Pro members, highlight how working from home continues to remain for some more than others.
Many comm pros (81%) continue to work from home for some of the week, with more women (83%) than men (73%) avoiding the commute. Those numbers are consistent with the 2022 results, indicating that COVID-era trend will likely continue to impact workplace structure.
That doesn’t mean working from home will be a full-time arrangement for everyone, though—only 34% of respondents said they work from home five days a week, compared to the 51% who said the same in last year’s survey. This may be explained by the 54% of respondents who said they are required to work a certain number of days in office.
Broken down generationally, half of Gen Z workers said they must work in the office full time, compared with between 20-30% of respondents from other generations.
