Hip hop and healing: Hospital videos for a new generation
Medical facilities ditch solemnity for infectious rhythms, catchy poetry—and maybe viral exposure.

Is there a Dr. Dre or Snoop Dogg on your medical staff?
If so, get out your Flip cam. It’s time to make a hospital rap video.
Sure, you’ve probably seen numerous videos of hospital employees singing and dancing, like the classic “Pink Glove Dance.”
But creating a rap allows your patients to see your hospital in a new light.
We all know the video won’t air on MTV, but it could become an instant YouTube sensation—at least among communicators. A rap video for your audience is a great way to share a message, involve your staff, bring awareness to a cause or get people excited to learn more about your organization.
One more thing: Rap videos are entertaining. Why can’t we stop watching them?
Maybe it’s because when we think of hospitals, we think of a conservative, buttoned-down, sanitary culture. When we think about the rap scene, well, we think about bling-bling and baggy clothes. Perhaps it’s the juxtaposition of these two cultures that leaves us wanting more.
Or perhaps we just thought this would be an entertaining way to jump-start your Fourth of July weekend.
