Amid shifting cultural stigma around the value of remote and displaced work, many companies gave employees ultimatums to return to the office, only to put plans on ice in the face of another COVID-19 variant.

According to The New York Times, the upcoming two-year anniversary of the pandemic has many executives confident that their return-to-office plans are going to stick this time. American Express begins a phased return on March 1, and Meta (formerly Facebook) starts its hybrid return on March 28. On Feb. 28, Microsoft workers have 30 days to adopt the working preferences of their managers. Ford, Dow Jones and other companies have formalized flexible return-to-office plans.
