COVID-19-era content and engagement ideas
It’s not what you say; it’s what people hear (remember). Prioritize programs and pieces that will make employees’ lives easier and better.
Offer growth and development feature for employees. It’s easy to feel defeated right now. Empower workers during this stressful time, and give them hope for the future. Encourage leaders to pony up for conferences and skills training. Take care of yourself, too, and try new things. Get a mentor, or shadow someone. Give employees permission to prevent burnout; encourage them to explore passions or hobbies. Offer short-term development assignments that people have to apply for, etc.
Produce personalized, emotional content. One roundtable participant created a “My journey” timeline feature that lets employees share how they arrived in their position. “Day in the life” features are also always great.
Consider weekly virtual town halls to share latest news, updates and collect feedback. Don’t overcommit, but take this opportunity to make your comms team (and hopefully your CEO) shine.
