June 19 is Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. Congress just approved Juneteenth to become our 12th federal holiday. As AP reports, this is the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was established in 1983.
How are companies observing this special day, which has largely been overlooked by corporate America in the past?
CNN reports how 19 companies are communicating about Juneteenth this year. Amazon “is sponsoring several Juneteenth events this weekend, including the inaugural Juneteenth Unityfest, a series of musical performances, speeches and other live shows that will be livestreamed nationwide on Saturday,” while companies such as Apple, Nike and Peloton are giving workers this Friday off.
