Hiring managers are less likely to hire Jewish applicants, according to study
The recent wave of antisemitism in the news is also present in hiring practices.
In recent weeks, celebrities like rapper Kanye West and Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving have used their platforms to share antisemitic tropes and stereotypes. Given how this hateful rhetoric has also motivated white nationalists to hang banners over the 405 freeway claiming “Kanye was right about the Jews” and emboldened Nazis on Twitter plastered all over the news as of late, it’s worth considering how these bigoted opinions might permeate the rest of our society.
Unfortunately, according to a recent survey by ResumeBuilder.com, antisemitic views are also present in the hiring process for some companies.
Bias based on background
Among the astonishing results of the survey, one in four hiring managers reported that they’d be less likely to move forward with a Jewish job applicant based on their background. Aside from the blatant bigotry, the reasons why managers reported feeling this way are even more worrying.
