Boston doctor slams GQ over insensitive language
Magazine likens worst-dressed Bostonians to the fashion of those with Down syndrome.
GQ magazine knows a little something about style. But not so much about word choice, it seems.
The magazine published a list of the 40 worst-dressed cities in America on Friday, naming Boston as the worst offender.
Beantown, according to GQ writer John B. Thompson ” … is like America’s Bad-Taste Storm Sewer: all the worst fashion ideas from across the country flow there, stagnate and putrefy.”
Dr. Brian Skotko, a specialist in the Down syndrome program at Children’s Hospital Boston, said the online version included a sentence that insulted the mentally challenged, who have an extra chromosome. GQ wrote:
“Boston suffers from a kind of Style Down Syndrome, where a little extra ends up ruining everything.”
