Egalitarian culture helps NetApp snag top spot on Fortune‘s annual list

NetApp is the fourth company K.A. has worked for in the past five years.

“Customers routinely joke with me about the color of my business card this week,” K.A. wrote in a comment following a blog posting on NetApp’s internal social networking site.

“I have now been with NetApp for nine months and am experiencing something unique,” the employee continued. “I am actually more excited to be working for NetApp now then when I was first recruited. Usually at this point in a job, the honeymoon phase is over and you can truly see what a company has.”

What the enterprise technology company has is a culture founded on open communication—one that attracts employees and makes them want to stay. This culture, more than anything else, earned the Sunnyvale, Calif., firm the top spot on Fortune magazine’s recently released list of the best companies to work for.
