Its comprehensive, well-organized design earned Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s myCHK intranet top honors in Ragan’s 2012 Employee Communications Awards in the Best Design (Intranet) category.

Chesapeake Energy needed an intranet for its 13,000 office- and field-based employees that could display information based on the employee’s department, title, and role in the company. The intranet had to provide information ranging from human resources updates and opportunities to industry news and corporate initiatives to tools employees need every day.

At first glance, it is evident this site is not only inviting, but useful, as well. The crisp, colorful home page has easy-to-follow navigation to other areas of the site. It includes news highlights, department initiatives, community and health and wellness information, local weather, and the company stock ticker.

Contacts are easily visible across the bottom of the page, and a search, directory, resource library, and marketplace add to the site’s ease of use and value.

The intranet’s new content structure was designed to accommodate future change. Even better, it helps employees find information more easily and has created time savings and a reduction in the number of calls to the help desk.

When an intranet is so comprehensive and easy to use that a non-employee judge feels as if she could find the information she needs, it’s a winner.

We congratulate the team that collaborated on the winning effort: Jamie Russell, team lead: interactive; Jared Ranum, user interface/user experience strategy; Adam Brooks, Laura Bauer, Brandi Wessel, and Sarah Piowaty, website content writers; STAPLEGUN, design; Chris Bono, Brad Pipins, and John Carney, developers; and Paul Crawford, project manager.
