Seattle Seahawks apologize for ‘poor judgment’ with MLK tweet

A whole lot of brands tweeted to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Monday. If you were curious whether The Cheesecake Factory, Steak-Umm, Planet Fitness or PetSmart support the ongoing struggle for civil rights, their tweets indicate they do.

The Seattle Seahawks apparently do, too, but the team that rallied to defeat the Green Bay Packers for the NFC championship Sunday issued a tweet that made people wonder whether its message was about racial equality or going to the Super Bowl.

Along with a tearful image of quarterback Russell Wilson superimposed with King’s “You don’t have to see the whole staircase just to take the first step” quote, the team’s account simply tweeted, “We shall overcome.”

It led to responses such as this:
