After devastating Nepal earthquake, charities relay stories
Organizations including Oxfam, the British Red Cross, and Charity: Water went beyond the typical request for donations.
Dozens of charities sprang to work over the weekend to raise funds for rescue and recovery efforts, and many did more than the standard request for donations. Through blogs, social media and other means, they offered stories that informed people about what is happening on the ground in the aftermath of the quake.
For example, Save the Children published this blog post offering an aid worker’s firsthand account of the quake. The worker, Brad Kerner, wrote:
We watched as buildings collapsed and houses came crashing down. The sounds of destruction and dogs barking filled our ears. The quake lasted little more than a minute—but it felt like an eternity.
