In Rock Island, Ill., a case of hepatitis A in a McDonald’s employee went unreported for more than three weeks. Thousands in the community who ate at the restaurant are being asked to seek treatment and receive the vaccine.
A worker with an infectious disease is not uncommon in the restaurant industry, but how should an employer prepare for such circumstances?
Citing a pending legal matter, a McDonald’s spokesperson said she could not share the specifics about the case nor discuss the company’s crisis communication plan. However, McDonald’s USA did respond to media inquiries in writing, with this statement on Wednesday:
