Should Anthony Weiner drop out?
The former congressman, now a New York City mayoral candidate, has once again been caught sending sexually tinged text messages to a woman who isn’t his wife. Does this doom his political career?
In an editorial posted Tuesday night, The New York Times was not subtle in its message to New York mayoral candidate and former congressman Anthony Weiner:
“Mr. Weiner should take his marital troubles and personal compulsions out of the public eye, away from cameras, off the Web and out of the race for mayor of New York City.”
What could make the Gray Lady so angry as to ask Weiner to, more or less, get out of town? Making the same mistake twice.
Several items posted to gossip website The Dirty allege Weiner texted and had phone sex with multiple women. He also apparently answered explicit questions on the Q & A website Formspring under the name “Carlos Danger.”
In a Tuesday news conference with wife Huma Abedin by his side, Weiner admitted to sexting as recently as a year ago, but he resolved to stay in the mayoral race. He resigned from Congress in 2011 over reports he sent explicit messages and pictures to at least six women. He vows it’s behind him now.
“I want to bring my vision to the people of the city of New York. I hope they are willing to still continue to give me a second chance,” he said.
