How an HMO used employee input to create a more-social intranet
Group Health Cooperative gave the hosts of IBF Live a tour of its new, though not entirely finished intranet, which is the result of considerable employee input.
You think you’ve been using your intranet for a long time? Group Health Cooperative probably has you beat.
Its new intranet, which launched last year, is the “first successful refresh since 1992,” Becky Kaplan Farone, GHC’s senior manager for intranet and information resources, told the hosts of the April edition of Intranet Benchmarking Forum’s IBF Live broadcast.
The new intranet, which isn’t entirely finished but is through its first phase of work, includes big changes to its home page, the search functions and navigation, and the staff directory. There are more revisions to come, Farone said.
GHC had attempted, without great success, to use SharePoint for team sites, which meant leaders and employees needed a bit of convincing that it could work for GHC. Farone and her team made it happen by reaching out to employees to discover what they really wanted in an intranet.
