Deloitte recruits great employees by practicing ‘inside out’ communications
Bringing down the firewall between internal and external communications gives the world a glimpse at what it’s like to work at the firm.
“The outside drives the inside.”
That’s the ethos at professional services firm Deloitte, Mary McGoff, the firm’s national talent communications lead, told an audience at a Ragan Communications conference at SAS last month.
Deloitte is breaking down the wall between internal and external communication. By putting documents on the Web, posting employee videos and YouTube, and giving Twitter users a glimpse into the lives of Deloitte executives, the company is bolstering its recruiting efforts and its relationship with clients.
“It helps show that we walk the talk,” Suzanne Vickberg, Deloitte’s senior manager of talent strategy and eminence, said of the company’s decision to put internal documents on the Web. “We’re not just out there preaching in our human-capital consulting about how to work with people, but we’re actually doing it.”
The information flux in flux
Information within companies used to flow from the top downward, Vickberg said, but that’s not the case anymore. “Now it flows in all sorts of directions, both inside and outside the organization,” she said.
