Blocking employee access to social media Web sites at work is more of a management decision than an IT issue, a recent poll showed.
The poll, conducted by Ragan Communications and PollStream, asked communicators worldwide about their organizations’ policies on the use of social media Web sites at work.
Who: 430 professional communicators from North and South America, Australia and Europe.
We asked you what Web sites you can’t access at work. You said:
A vast majority (69 percent) of the 424 professional communicators who responded to the poll said their companies permit employees to access social media sites. One-third of those respondents said “no one knows we’re using [social media] at work,” while nearly half indicated management allows access to these sites because “employees follow established policies.”
