Palin, Biden play it safe

Neither of the vice presidential candidates did much to sway undecided voters

Watching debates at my house is fun. We have a big chair in my bedroom, so it’s big enough to gather my wife and kids in one chair as we make fun of the candidates.

We’re a sarcastic and cynical bunch, ready to make fun of missteps and ready to applaud when someone lands a great line, regardless of party.

I encourage you to take off your red or blue party hat and put on your white PR hat. This review is purely from a PR perspective.

• At first glance it was boring. My head literally bobbed 28 minutes in.

• There were no great opening lines.

• Both candidates dressed in black and looked like funeral directors. I would have put the male in a dark blue suit, white shirt and red, blue or gold tie. I would have let the female candidate wear her traditional suits, in a color other than black.

• For the first round of answers, Biden made the stronger impression. He’s been running for president for the past year, so he’s well prepared on his national issues. Palin in the first round was visibly nervous. The first set of questions go to Biden for appearing wiser.
