Getting employees to use your comms tech stack
With the right tools and support, comms can get the whole organization using the same tools.
Email, intranet, video, podcasts — there are so many ways to tell stories for communicators in our technologically advanced society that it’s sometimes hard to suss out which ones are right for which situation. An effective communicator needs to know what tools in their kit are the right ones to use in each individual case.
Earlier this year at Ragan’s Employee Communication and Culture Conference, editor-in-chief Justin Joffe held a panel with Molly Snyder, chief communications and public affairs officer at Shipt and Bill Vulpone, senior sales engineer at LumApps on the tools to use, pitfalls to avoid, and much more.
Introduce features to employees gradually
It’s great to know what you want to achieve as a communicator, but it’s just as important to know what tools you need to get there.
Describing her communications journey at Shipt, Snyder said that when she started there were only two comms professionals folded into the marketing department. While this made it harder to enforce best practices at first, it prompted comms to be much more focused on how tools would be used and engage with across the organization.
“We’ve been on a really intentional build over the last three years,” she said. “It’s to test, to learn —- and to build tools along the way.”
