Health Beat tells a moving story to introduce a new surgical device
Article also credited the nurses who invented the device.
The Clever Medical Drape was created by nurses to hasten mother-infant bonding after a caesarean section. A heartwarming, human story about the drape has won Spectrum Health’s Health Beat blog first place in the “Article” category of PR Daily’s 2017 Nonprofit PR Awards.
The article, “A Blessing I Didn’t Expect,” was shared more than 34,000 times—impressive engagement for any health care content. To produce these outstanding results, two reporters arranged to be in the room for the birth of Claire Greene. They interviewed the parents and also the nurses who designed the drape.
The emotions conveyed in the article are heightened by a slide show of tasteful, evocative photos, elevating the article’s power. “A Blessing I Didn’t Expect” should be required reading for anyone tasked with developing content about the adoption of a new technology or process.
Congratulations to Health Beat’s Sue Thoms and Chris Clark.
