SAE frat director maintains racist song ‘does not at all reflect our values’
University of Oklahoma President David Boren said in a Friday press conference that students caught on video singing the song learned it at a Sigma Alpha Epsilon national leadership school.
Since the video of members of the University of Oklahoma chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity singing a racist song became public a few weeks ago, the national fraternity organization has distanced itself from those members’ actions.
In a Q&A posted to the fraternity’s website, the answer to the question “Has your investigation found that the song was sung by members nationally?” is this: “Our invetigation [sic] to date shows no evidence the song was widely shared across the broader organization.”
University of Oklahoma President David Boren called that assertion into question in a Friday press conference, however. Boren wrote in a letter to the national fraternity organization:
