10 things communicators shouldn’t apologize for
Take pride in your profession—and your daily habits.
From Delta to Anthony Weiner, it seems like everybody has been issuing a mea culpa lately.
It’s getting a little stale.
We came up with a list of 10 things that you, as a corporate communicator, should not apologize for. Please feel free to add more.
1. Pitching a story. You’ve got a great story to tell about your company. Journalists need to hear it. You shouldn’t feel guilty about giving them material—especially if you’re pitching in a creative, personalized manner.
2. Checking Twitter on your smartphone. Well, it’s more productive than Angry Birds, certainly. Try not to get too involved in the latest hashtag game, though, and tweet information of interest to other communicators.
3. Taking a walk in the middle of the day. Get those creative juices re-charged. Let your mind wander. See what’s beyond your cubicle’s walls. If you go outside and see a glowing ball in the sky, that’s the sun. Nothing to worry about.
