10 stories on DE&I that mattered on this year
The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and others prompted a national movement around race and equality this summer. Here’s a look at the stories that rose to the top on this important topic.
In the midst of a global pandemic which was having a pronounced, unequal impact on communities of color across the U.S., George Floyd was killed at the hands of police in Minneapolis. The footage of his death shocked the conscience of many and sparked a deeper conversation about racial equality and justice around the country.
The business community was forced to respond, and many made statements in support of movements like Black Lives Matter and condemning racial inequality and white supremacy.
Communicators have been grappling with how to foster important conversations within their organization, fight inequality and injustice in their own backyard, and help their organizations navigate a national discussion sowed with the pain and suffering of generations of Black and brown citizens. Some of those stories on Ragan.com and PR Daily were among the most-read stories of the year, and we wanted to offer them here, as 2020 comes to a close, as a reminder of all the work that has been done this year and all the “good trouble” still left to be accomplished in the years to come:
